A couple of weekends ago, I was lucky enough to attend the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Monterey, California. For those who are not familiar, it is most certainly one of the America’s most predominant and important motorcycle Concours events, it brings together enthusiasts from around the globe and (despite the fact it was raining sideways) it was very clear that enthusiasm is strong.

There’s no doubt that the motorcycle community is a robust, independent one, but it does seem to be expanding and creeping into the peripheral vision of automotive enthusiasts a little more lately as well. Of course, we’re all familiar with motorcycle specific auctions conducted by Mecum and Bonham’s and online outlets like Bring-a-Trailer (who had an excellent adjacent event) and Classic Avenue, but we are starting to see a larger selection of motorcycles at more traditional automotive events and most recently with Gooding and Co. and their inaugural, all motorcycle Geared Online auction as well.

This continues to reinforce the fact that right now is the best time to be involved as either a professional or an enthusiast (or both) in collecting. There is simply no other time in history where there’s been more paths of entry into this space and more potential places to operate. As a result, that diversity can create stability. Just like with the stocks (or anything else along these lines for that matter) as long as you know where to look (or where to find the people that know where to look) and open yourself up to the possibility of pivoting, this marketplace can weather virtually any storm.

That’s it for this week…
