Hi Friends!
I’ll admit, I’m pretty obsessed with the idea of my bucket list. It’s something that I actively and formally maintain and to a large degree I’ve sort of built my existence around. Some of the best things I’ve done in my life have originated there too. Start a band, make records, go on tour, move to Arizona, buy a giant tortoise, become a boxer, figure out how to get a road in my city paved, raise a million dollars for a nonprofit, etc. These were all ideas that started out as bucket list items that I turned into real life which in turn, have enriched my life tremendously.
There’s also a significant amount of automotive and motorcycle related things that have started there also. Restore a car, work for an auction house, go to Monterey Car Week, show at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering, visit every Shelby Museum in the country in one month, emcee a major automotive event, even starting this newsletter was there at one point too.
This week, I got to knock another one of these items off my list……
A couple of years ago, Motorwerks was gathering some ideas for one of our clients who was looking to enhance their event and street team presence. We put together and pitched a half dozen or so pretty solid programs for them. One of them had a component that although they chose not to pursue, I could never really shake and it became something that I personally really, really wanted to do.
About 4 months ago, we sat down and decided that it was time for us to update our website. Although the one that we had was still quite good, still received compliments almost weekly and was definitely still relevant, we felt that it was no longer up to the award-winning standard that it was when it was first created. This presented an interesting issue however. When you’ve got a website that’s so out there and has received so many accolades, how do you follow that up? We were somewhat in a situation where we were sort of being imprisoned by our own accomplishments. Definitely kind of a stupid problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. How do you solve this?
We clearly needed something that was more usable and that could do more things in the modern digital marketing environment (which was our previous websites biggest shortcoming) and we definitely knew how to make things that were slick, sophisticated, engaging and memorable from that standpoint, but in order to keep up with what we had before, it wasn’t going to be enough. We needed to do something that we had never done before and then to run crazy with whatever idea that turned out to be.
Bucket list to the rescue: we decided that we were going to make a throwback, classic car rally themed, arcade style video game, and that’s exactly what we did!
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, Motorwerks 1000!
It’s the world’s most exclusive collector car rally event and you’re invited!
The stage is set, the route chosen and the cars are ready! Join nearly a century’s worth of curated classic, retro and exotic automobiles, along with the enthusiast participants that drive them and chase golden gears through the back roads of 1000 miles of picturesque American wilderness. If you think getting invited on this tour was hard, just wait until you hit the road! We’ll see you at the finish line of the Motorwerks 1000!
Of course, this is not the end of the automotive bucket list. It’s clearly something that’s significantly important to coming up with new ideas, trying to accomplish new and interesting things and to just keep life moving in general. I think the importance of all this cannot be underscored and I really think that having it is truly critical. I really think it’s something that everyone should do.
If you’ve got one of these too, I’d love to know some of the things that are on it. Feel free to drop me a line here, on social media or just leave a comment in the survey and let me know. In the meantime, we hope everybody enjoys our new website and the game. We definitely had fun making it!
PS There’s more things from the bucket list coming up on the horizon, pretty quickly here, that you’ll find out about very soon. We’re far from done and we will always keep moving forward in as many interesting ways as we possibly can. Believe that!
That’s it for this week…
