Hi Friends!
I love Thanksgiving. It’s easily my favorite holiday. Sit around with people you care about, make a bunch of great food and talk about all the things that you’re thankful for. It is the last American holiday that is void of side quests and ulterior motives and as a result, it is the absolute best.
Some things to consider:
2024 vs 2025 Total Marketplace Dollar Volume
2024: $3.3 billion
2025 (projected from first half pace – which is likely an underestimate based on current market activity vs Q1/Q2 2025): ≈ $3.5–3.6 billion
→ Up ~4–8%
Total Cars Sold (Market Activity/Throughput)
2024: ≈ 59,000 cars sold
2025 pace: ≈ 63,000–65,000 cars sold
→ Up ~6–10%
Sell-Through Rate
2024: ~66%
2025: 69–70%
→ Up 3–4 percentage points
Average Sale Price
2024: ~$59,000
2025: ~$61,000
→ Up ~3–4%
Reduction in “No-Sale” Rates
2024: ~34% of cars failed to meet reserve
2025: ~30%
→ ~4% improvement
Number of $1M+ Sales (Market Strength Indicators)
2024: ~170
2025 pace: 200+
→ ≈ +18% increase in seven-figure cars
Major Auction Week Sales
Monterey 2025: $432.8M, 2nd-highest ever (up from $391.6M in 2024)
Amelia Island 2025: $129M, all-time high (up from $125M in 2024 estimates)
RM Sotheby’s ModaMiami 2025: $74.5M (up from $50M in 2024)
Bottom Line: Every major objective measure of market health improved in 2025
Total money spent up
Total cars sold up
Sell-through rate up
Average sale price up
$1M+ cars up
Live-auction tentpole events posted record or near-record totals
Online sales continue to show growth
No-sale rate down
This is the clear proof that the collector-car market in 2025 is materially stronger than 2024.
Note: Basically, all of this stuff was sourced through various Classic.com reports.
2023 and 2024 were undeniably difficult years for this industry and for this hobby. A large percentage of the marketplace is without a doubt in a better spot than we were this time last year. If there’s anything for us to be thankful for, it’s that it looks pretty clear that we’ve moved beyond the challenges of the prior 24 months or so and things are improving.
I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday.
That’s it for this week……
